About Hape

Hape is an international toy brand founded in Germany in 1986 by Peter Handstein, under the Hape Holding AG structure. It presents itself as an educational toy brand and uses the tagline “Inspiring Play Since 1986”. Its catalogue covers many categories: toys for babies and toddlers, push and pull toys, musical instruments, wooden trains and railways, marble runs, play kitchens and tea sets, doll’s houses and furniture, balance bikes, puzzles, games, arts and crafts, and beach and outdoor toys. The brand says it makes its toys from sustainably managed wood sources and with non-toxic paints.

It also uses bamboo, a fast-growing material, as well as a bio-based plastic made from sugar cane (Green PE), and mentions FSC-certified materials. On the production side, Hape cites recycled cardboard packaging, organic inks, water-based colours and closed-loop water systems. Its products are certified to several international safety standards, including EN 71 for Europe, ASTM F963 for the United States, AS/NZS ISO 8124 and GB 6675. The Hape group also brings together other toy brands, including Trelines, Pin Toys, Kruseling’s and Senger.
