Changing mats

En savoir plus

A changing mat is chosen first and foremost to fit the furniture it sits on: 50 x 80 cm for the Miro model by Dili Best, for example, or foldable and portable like the Nomadcare by Babymoov. For changes on the go, read our changing bag guide.

Advice from the Maârif showroom team

How do you choose a changing mat?

  • Dimensions: measure the top of the chest of drawers before buying; the mat must not overhang the furniture. The Miro by Dili Best measures 50 x 80 cm.
  • Fixed or portable: a fixed mat stays on the chest of drawers; a portable mat folds up and goes in the changing bag.
  • An easy-to-clean surface: the Nomadcare is waterproof, wipes clean with a sponge and is machine washable at 30 °C, according to its product page.
  • Built-in storage: the Nomadcare’s pockets keep diapers and wipes with the mat.
  • Comfort: a padded mat with raised sides is more pleasant for your child, but you still need to keep a hand on them.
  • Style: soft pink for the Picci, white for the Miro, to match the nursery.

In a flat with a small nursery, a portable mat placed on a chest of drawers or a bed, then put away in a drawer, frees up space. In summer, if the mat has a plastic-coated surface, a cotton muslin laid on top avoids contact between damp skin and the plastic, and goes in the washing machine. More portable models are in the Changing mats category.

Good to know

Changing safety

Place the mat on a stable, wide enough piece of furniture, never balanced precariously. Get the diaper, wipes and clothes ready before laying your child down, and always keep one hand on them: an infant can roll over without warning. On a bed, change them in the middle, away from the edge.

Frequently asked questions

What size changing mat should you choose?

The size of your furniture: measure the width and depth of the top of the chest of drawers. The Miro, at 50 x 80 cm, needs a chest-of-drawers top at least as large; make sure it does not overhang.

Fixed mat or portable mat?

A fixed mat is thicker and stays in place at home; a portable mat folds up for outings. Many parents have both.

Do you need a cover?

A fabric cover is easy to wash and makes the surface softer. Check the product page to see whether the model wipes clean with a sponge or is machine washable.
