Group 1 car seats (9-18 kg)

When your child reaches about 9 kg and sits up well, it's time to think about a group 1 car seat, designed for up to 18 kg, which is up to about 4 years on average.

How do I choose a car seat for a child weighing 9 to 18 kg?

• The standard: the R129 (i-Size) regulation classifies seats by the child's height and strengthens side-impact testing.
• Installation direction: keeping your child rear-facing for as long as possible protects them better; R129 makes it mandatory until at least 15 months.
• Fixing: ISOFIX or seat belt, check compatibility with your car.
• The harness: it should be easy to adjust in height as your child grows.

Frequently asked questions

When should you move to a group 1 car seat?

When your child has exceeded the maximum weight or height of their infant car seat, or when their head goes above the top of it. Don't switch too early: the infant car seat remains very protective.

Is a multi-group seat a good option?

It saves you buying a new seat at each stage. Just check that it fits properly in your car in each of its configurations.
