Baby pacifiers and dummies

En savoir plus

A pacifier is chosen first by the age range the manufacturer gives (0-6 months, 6-18 months or 18-36 months), then by its material, silicone or latex, and the shape of its teat. Also known as a dummy, it should not be confused with a bottle teat, the tip that fits onto a baby bottle.

This section brings together NUK, Philips Avent, Bébé Confort, Maxi-Cosi and Dodie pacifiers, plus pacifier clips from Dodie, Doudou et Compagnie, Pasito a Pasito and Babychou. Delivery across Morocco, free from 300 DH, or free collection from our Maârif showroom in Casablanca.

Which pacifier should I choose?

  • 0-6 month pacifier (size 1): the smallest teat, designed for the first months. It suits newborns, if you decide to offer one.
  • 6-18 month pacifier: a larger teat and shield, sized for a growing mouth. It suits babies from 6 months; NUK, Philips Avent and Bébé Confort all make one.
  • 18-36 month pacifier: the size for older children, from Maxi-Cosi or Dodie (from 18 months). It suits children who keep their pacifier after 18 months, while you prepare to stop.
  • Night pacifier: a “night” version offered by some brands, such as Dodie and Philips Avent. It suits babies who only take a pacifier to sleep.

How to choose a baby pacifier: the key criteria

  • Material: silicone, firm and heat-resistant, is the choice if there is a known latex allergy; latex, a softer natural rubber, wears faster.
  • Teat shape: physiological, anatomical or reversible depending on the range; a reversible teat is symmetrical and goes in either way. Each product page uses the shape described by the manufacturer.
  • The clip: a clip designed for the purpose, attached to clothing, with a ribbon, a chain or a soft toy depending on the model.
  • Two rather than one: you always have a clean one to hand, at home and in the changing bag.

Good to know in Morocco

  • “Tétine” or pacifier: here, many parents say “tétine” when they mean a pacifier. On WhatsApp, give your baby’s age; if you are looking for the tip of a bottle, ask for a bottle teat.
  • Heat and sun: latex does not cope well with heat and UV light. In summer, do not leave the pacifier in a car parked in the sun or on the pushchair in full sun, and keep it in a clean box.
  • Family rules: remind everyone that there is never any sugar or honey on the pacifier, and that it is never cleaned in your own mouth; a spare pacifier does the job.

Frequently asked questions

Pacifier, dummy or teat: what is the difference?

A pacifier and a dummy are the same thing; in French, both are often called a “tétine”. A teat is also the tip of a baby bottle, chosen to match the bottle range: you will find it in our baby bottles and teats section.

When can I give my baby a pacifier?

A pacifier is not compulsory. If you choose to offer one, do so at bedtime without forcing, and first check that your baby is not hungry. If you are breastfeeding, wait until breastfeeding is well established; your midwife or paediatrician can advise you.

When should I change size or replace the pacifier?

Move up a size following the age range on the packaging, which varies from brand to brand. Replace it sooner as soon as the teat is split, sticky or misshapen: check it before each use by pulling on it gently.

How do I clean a pacifier?

Wash it before first use, then regularly following the instructions. The permitted sterilising method depends on the model: check the packaging before putting the pacifier in a steriliser.

How do I use a pacifier clip safely?

Choose a clip designed for this purpose, with a short ribbon, attached to clothing. Never tie it around the neck or to the cot bars, and remove it when your baby sleeps.
