Educational games

En savoir plus

An educational game lets children learn while having fun: counting, recognising letters, observing, reasoning or waiting their turn. At La Maison du Bébé, you'll find educational games in Morocco sorted by use, from first learning to family game nights. Start from your child's age and the skill you'd like to support.

Which educational game should you choose?

  • First learning: numbers, letters, colours and writing, for example with Nathan's "J'apprends à compter" or "La petite école" games.
  • Puzzles: wooden or progressive; compare the number and size of the pieces.
  • Board games: dominoes, strategy or quiz games, to play together.
  • Science toys: experiments and observation, to do with an adult.
  • Drawing boards and magnetic games: magnetic letters and boards to draw, wipe and start again.

Useful things to check before you buy

  • Age: follow the age stated by the manufacturer; a game that is too hard is discouraging, one that is too easy quickly becomes boring.
  • Target skill: language, logic, fine motor skills, memory or arithmetic.
  • Number of players: solo play or a family game.
  • Pieces: material, size and whether storage is included.
  • Language: check on the product page the language of the rules, cards and booklets.

Brands on offer include Nathan, Eurekakids, Quercetti, Cayro, Headu and Hape.

Frequently asked questions

How do you choose a puzzle by age?

Start with a few pieces that are easy to grasp, then gradually increase the number. A progressive puzzle brings several difficulty levels together in one box.

Can an educational game be played as a family?

Yes. Board games and question-and-answer games are easily shared between brothers and sisters, with an adult to guide the youngest.

Educational games and Montessori toys: which toy to choose at each age

Track with car launcher truck

The most useful educational toys are often the simplest: a rattle in the first months, stacking blocks at around 1 year, a 3- or 4-piece puzzle at around 2-3 years. Choose a toy that respects the age stated on the packaging and matches what interests your child right now. The ages in this guide are a rough guide: every child develops at their own pace.

Key points

  • 0-6 months: rattles, cot mobiles, play mats. Before 3 months, your interactions with your baby matter more than toys
  • 6-12 months: balls, soft blocks, stacking toys, containers to fill and empty
  • 1-3 years: toys to screw, slot together and thread, then pretend play and simple puzzles
  • 3-6 years: crafts, construction, puzzles and first board games such as memory games
  • Montessori is a teaching approach, not a label: the word is not protected

Frequently asked questions

Which Montessori toy for a 6-month-old baby?

A simple object that is easy to grasp: a ball, a soft block, a rattle, a stacking toy. Place one or two within reach and let your baby explore, under your watchful eye.

From what age can you offer Montessori toys?

The Montessori approach also applies to the very young: the Association Montessori Internationale describes it from birth. When it comes to toys, start simply: a rattle, a cot mobile, a play mat.

Which educational games for a 2-year-old?

Pretend play (play kitchen, tools, dolls), blocks, beads to thread, 3- or 4-piece puzzles, modelling dough, a balance bike or a tricycle. Start from what interests them right now.
