Quick answer: choose a car seat by your child's height and weight, not just their age. From birth to 12–15 months (40 to 75–87 cm, or 0–13 kg in group 0+), use a rear-facing infant carrier; from 15 months to about 4 years (76–105 cm, or 9–18 kg in group 1), a harnessed seat kept rear-facing for as long as possible; from about 4 to 12 years (100–150 cm, or 15–36 kg in groups 2/3), a high-back booster, with a backless booster only from 125 cm. Our benchmarks: the Maxi-Cosi Pebble S 2 184 DHSee price / Order infant carrier, the rotating Bébé Confort Demeter 360 i-Size 2 266 DHSee price / Order, the convertible Maxi-Cosi Titan S i-Size 3 436 DHSee price / Order, then the Maxi-Cosi RodiFix AirProtect 2 790 DHSee price / Order and Bébé Confort Gaia i-Fix 537 DHSee price / Order boosters.

"My son is 2, which seat should I buy?" is the question we hear most at our Maârif showroom. This guide answers it in order: height and weight, then the standard, then the model. For Isofix, budget and car compatibility, see our baby car seat buying guide.

The table to remember: R44 groups and i-Size R129 heights

Two standards still coexist in Morocco: ECE R44 classifies seats by weight groups, while UN Regulation No. 129 (i-Size) classifies them by child height, with a maximum weight.

Ages are only guidelines: what decides is the height range and maximum weight printed on the seat's label.

R44 or R129: reading the seat label

Every approved seat carries an orange label: "ECE R44/04" with a group and weight range, or "R129 / i-Size" with a height range and maximum weight. R129 makes rear-facing mandatory until at least 15 months, adds a side-impact test and is easier to follow: you just measure your child standing against a wall. According to Maxi-Cosi, the sale of R44 seats has been banned in the European Union since 1 September 2024, but an approved R44 seat can still be used. Two rules prevent most mistakes: choose an R129 seat in centimetres and an R44 seat in kilos, and respect both limits at once, height and weight.

Stage 1: the infant carrier, from birth to 12–15 months

The infant carrier is installed rear-facing, carried from car to home and, depending on the model, clips onto a stroller.

As a complement, the Jovikids Aria i-Size 40-87 cm infant carrier 990 DHSee price / Order (990 DH) is the most affordable option. See our group 0+ infant carriers and, for a stroller from another brand, the Maxi-Cosi Citi adapter 179 DHSee price / Order.

When to move on from the infant carrier?

When the maximum height or weight is reached (83 cm for the Pebble S, 13 kg for the Citi), or when the top of the head reaches the edge of the shell. Maxi-Cosi's tip: lay your hand flat on top of the seat back; if your baby's head touches it, it's time. Feet touching the vehicle seat are not a signal, and the next seat must also be usable rear-facing before 15 months.

Stage 2: from 15 months to about 4 years, the harnessed seat

The golden rule: rear-facing for as long as possible. R129 requires it until at least 15 months, Maxi-Cosi recommends at least 2 years and NHTSA advises going up to the seat's limit. More in our article rear-facing: until what age?

A well-adjusted harness: straps at or just below the shoulders when rear-facing, at or just above when forward-facing. The seat is outgrown when its limit is reached or when the child's eyes are above the top of the headrest in its highest position.

Stage 3: from about 4 to 12 years, the high-back booster

Beyond the harness (often 100–105 cm or 15–18 kg), the child is held by the car's 3-point seat belt: the booster raises them so the belt lies across the upper thighs and the middle of the shoulder, never across the stomach or neck.

  • Maxi-Cosi RodiFix AirProtect group 2/3 2 790 DHSee price / Order (2 790 DH): 15 to 36 kg (about 3.5 to 12 years), Isofix, adjustable headrest, two recline positions. AirProtect is side-impact protection built into the headrest which, according to Maxi-Cosi, reduces the risk of head injury in a side impact by up to 20%.
  • With a Demeter 360 or a Titan S, no need to buy a booster: they convert into a high-back booster up to 150 cm.

Stage 4: backless from 125 cm, then the seat belt alone

Under R129, the backless booster is reserved for children at least 125 cm tall. Light, it slips into the boot for car-pooling or a taxi.

NHTSA advises keeping the booster until the seat belt fits properly, often between 8 and 12 years: sitting all the way back, knees bending at the edge of the seat, belt across the upper thighs and mid-shoulder for the whole trip. In Morocco, Decree No. 2-10-420 (art. 8) forbids children under 10 from the front seats.

One seat from 0 to 12 years, or one seat per stage?

  1. One seat: the Demeter 360 i-Size 2 266 DHSee price / Order, from 40 to 150 cm. Economical and rotating, but it can't be carried like an infant carrier.
  2. Infant carrier then convertible: the Pebble S 2 184 DHSee price / Order up to 83 cm, then the Demeter 360 to extend rear-facing, or the Titan S 3 436 DHSee price / Order up to 12 years.
  3. Carrier, harness then boosters: Citi 737 DHSee price / Order, a harnessed seat, the RodiFix AirProtect 2 790 DHSee price / Order, then a Gaia i-Safe from 125 cm for the second car.

Frequently asked questions

Which car seat for a baby from 0 to 12 months?

A rear-facing infant carrier: the Maxi-Cosi Pebble S (i-Size, 40–83 cm) or the Maxi-Cosi Citi (group 0+, 0–13 kg). The Bébé Confort Demeter 360 i-Size also fits from 40 cm, but stays in the car.

At what age should my baby move on from the infant carrier?

When the carrier's maximum height or weight is reached, or when the head reaches the edge of the shell, usually between 12 and 15 months.

My baby's feet touch the vehicle seat: should I change seats?

No. It is not a sign of danger; only the seat's limit and the position of the head relative to the shell matter.

Which car seat for a 2- or 3-year-old?

A harnessed seat, ideally still rear-facing: the Demeter 360 i-Size allows this up to 105 cm. For forward-facing up to 12 years, the Maxi-Cosi Titan S i-Size covers 76 to 150 cm.

What do groups 0+, 1, 2 and 3 mean in centimetres?

Roughly: group 0+ = 40 to 75–87 cm; group 1 = 76 to 105 cm; groups 2/3 = 100 to 150 cm. Always follow the exact range on the label.

When should a child use a booster seat?

A high-back booster around age 4, once the harness is outgrown (the RodiFix AirProtect starts at 15 kg); a backless R129 booster like the Gaia only from 125 cm.

Is a birth-to-12-years seat (40–150 cm) a good choice?

Yes for a single rotating purchase: the Demeter 360 i-Size covers 40 to 150 cm. Many parents add an infant carrier for the first months.

Until what age is a car seat needed in Morocco?

Decree No. 2-10-420 forbids front seats to children under 10; the text consulted does not set a seat type by age. NHTSA advises a booster until the seat belt fits properly, often between 8 and 12 years.

Is an R44 car seat still valid?

Yes if it is approved and in good condition; only its sale has been banned in the European Union since September 2024. At a similar budget, choose i-Size.

How much does a Maxi-Cosi or Bébé Confort car seat cost in Morocco?

Current prices: Pebble S 2 184 DH, Citi 737 DH, Demeter 360 2 266 DH, Titan S 3 436 DH, RodiFix AirProtect 2 790 DH, Gaia i-Fix 537 DH; free delivery from 300 DH.
