Key points

  • The second month runs from 6 weeks and 3 days to 10 weeks and 5 days.
  • At 10 weeks, your baby measures about 3 cm from head to bottom and its heart beats very fast.
  • Small, frequent meals and a snack on waking often help with nausea.
  • Book the dating scan now: it takes place between 11 and 14 weeks.
  • Can't keep anything down, bleeding or pain: get checked without waiting.

The alarm goes off, and before you even open your eyes, the nausea is there. The smell of msemen (Moroccan flaky flatbread) warming in the kitchen sends you running, and by 3 pm you could fall asleep standing up. Welcome to 2 months pregnant: a month when nothing shows yet, but your body certainly makes itself heard.

It is also a busy month for organisation: your first appointment if you have not had it yet, blood tests, a scan to book. Here are the landmarks to help you work out where you are, understand what is happening and know when to call.

How many weeks is 2 months pregnant?

The second month runs from 6 weeks and 3 days to 10 weeks and 5 days, which is roughly 4 to 8 and a half weeks after conception. In practice, you are in your second month between weeks 7 and 10.

These weeks are counted from the first day of your last period. In Morocco, as in France, they are called weeks of amenorrhoea ("SA"): this is the unit your gynaecologist and your reports use. If the numbers confuse you, our article to convert weeks, gestational weeks and months gives the full table.

What is happening to your baby in the second month?

The embryo becomes a fetus. This is the big change of the month, which the UK's NHS places at around 8 weeks.

Week Size (head to bottom) What is forming
6 weeks about 6 mm buds of the arms and legs, beginnings of the ears
8 weeks about 16 mm the arms grow longer faster than the legs, the head straightens a little
10 weeks about 3 cm upper lip, nostrils, jaw with the future baby teeth

At 10 weeks, its heart beats about 180 times a minute, three times faster than yours. It already makes small jerky movements, visible on a scan but impossible to feel. WebMD also describes the fingers, toes, eyes and digestive tract taking shape during this month. What comes next, week by week, is in our detailed pregnancy calendar.

Symptoms in the second month of pregnancy

The early signs settle in, often more strongly:

  • nausea, sometimes with vomiting, at any time of day, often worse on waking;
  • crushing tiredness, which has nothing to do with laziness: your body is building the placenta;
  • swollen, painful breasts;
  • bloating, burping and heartburn: progesterone relaxes the muscles, including those of the digestive tract, the NHS explains;
  • headaches, dizziness and mood swings;
  • needing to pee more often and a milky white discharge.

At 10 weeks, the uterus is about the size of a large orange. Your tummy may look swollen in the evening, without being round.

For bloating, eat slowly, avoid late dinners, limit very fatty or very spicy dishes and take a short walk after meals.

Second-month appointments in Morocco

Your first appointment, if you have not had it yet. The WHO recommends this first contact before 12 weeks, and the NHS places it between 8 and 12 weeks. At the health centre, with your gynaecologist or in a private clinic, you are weighed, your blood pressure is taken, your urine is tested and you are asked about your medical history.

The early pregnancy blood test, which checks, according to the French schedule: blood group and Rhesus factor, rubella, toxoplasmosis, hepatitis B and, with your consent, HIV. If you are not immune to toxoplasmosis, precautions in the kitchen and the garden matter from now on: see how to avoid toxoplasmosis day to day.

The dating scan to book. It takes place between 11 and 14 weeks. Book it this month: with many sonographers, appointments go quickly. Its purpose is explained in our article on pregnancy scans.

Keep all your results in the same folder: they will follow you all the way to the maternity unit.

A wire-free cotton maternity bra adjusts as your bust changes. To sleep better despite the tiredness, some women already settle on their side with a pregnancy pillow, even though it will really come into its own later.

Work and family: should you announce the pregnancy already?

Nothing obliges you to. Many women wait for the first-trimester scan, the NHS notes. But if nausea has you rushing out of meetings, or if your job exposes you to risks (lifting, chemicals, night shifts), telling people earlier can protect you.

In Morocco, the Labour Code prohibits dismissing an employee during pregnancy (Article 159, the rule in force in October 2026). Our advice on choosing the moment and the words is in the article announcing your pregnancy.

If your pregnancy runs through the month of Ramadan, talk to your doctor about fasting before the month begins: our article on Ramadan during pregnancy sets out what is at stake.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the baby at 2 months pregnant?

It grows very fast. At 8 weeks, it measures about 16 mm, the size of a raspberry according to the UK's NHS; at 10 weeks, about 3 cm from head to bottom. Its weight is still counted in grams: WebMD puts it at around ten grams by the end of the month. It already moves, but far too lightly for you to feel it.

My nausea suddenly eased at 9 weeks: should I worry?

Not in itself. Early pregnancy symptoms vary from day to day and from woman to woman, and some women barely have any. Less nausea, on its own, does not tell you anything. However, if it comes with bleeding, pain or strong cramps, get seen the same day. And if the doubt is keeping you awake at night, call your doctor.

Can you have sex in the second month of pregnancy?

Yes, in the vast majority of cases. The NHS states that sex is safe in a pregnancy that is progressing normally, unless your doctor or midwife advises otherwise, for example after bleeding. Tiredness and nausea can, on the other hand, lower your desire, which is just as normal. There is more detail in our dedicated article.

Do you need a scan in the second month?

Not routinely. An early scan is requested if there is bleeding, pain or doubt about the dates. For a pregnancy without problems, the first routine scan takes place between 11 and 14 weeks, in the third month. What matters in the second month is to book it, because sonographers' appointments fill up quickly.
