Quick answer: a high chair is used once your baby can stay sitting up and hold their head steady, which usually happens at around 6 months, when solid foods are introduced (the UK NHS benchmark). In a small flat, choose a booster seat for a dining chair such as the Bébé Confort Moly booster 537 DHSee price / Order or a folding chair such as the Maxi-Cosi Ava 1 543 DHSee price / Order; for several years of use, go for a wooden convertible chair such as the Bébé Confort Timba 1 790 DHSee price / Order, designed from 6 months to about 10 years according to the brand. In Morocco, budget roughly 550 to 800 DH for a booster or an entry-level chair, 1,300 to 2,000 DH for a good high chair and up to about 3,000 DH for premium models: compare all our baby high chairs.
Used at every meal for two to ten years, a high chair has to be safe, easy to clean and suited to your kitchen and to the way your family eats, at a dining table or around a low table. This guide is based on manufacturers' product pages and on recommendations from safety bodies.
Baby high chair: from what age?
The NHS says solid foods start at around 6 months and that one of the signs your baby is ready is being able to stay in a sitting position and hold their head steady. Your baby needs to sit upright to swallow properly.
Most of our high chairs and boosters are designed from 6 months according to the manufacturers (Meely, Timba, Badabulle ultra compact, Moly, Trendy Meal). The Maxi-Cosi Ava 1 543 DHSee price / Order and the Babymoov Slick 2 721 DHSee price / Order can be used from birth in a reclined position, like a bouncer: before 6 months, that position keeps your baby close to you, it is not for feeding. If in doubt, ask your paediatrician.
The 5 types of high chairs and boosters
1. The classic high chair (2-in-1)
Metal legs, plastic seat, removable tray and harness: the most affordable option. According to Bébé Confort, the Meely high chair 628 DHSee price / Order is used from 6 months to 3 years (9 to 15 kg), with a 5-point harness, adjustable backrest and footrest, waterproof covers, and converts into a low chair.
2. The compact, folding high chair
Designed for narrow kitchens. The Maxi-Cosi Ava 1 543 DHSee price / Order folds ultra-compact, stands up when folded and has a carry handle (4.8 kg according to Maxi-Cosi). The Badabulle ultra compact high chair 1 117 DHSee price / Order folds with one hand and offers, according to retailers, 5 heights and 2 recline positions.
3. The wooden convertible high chair
The "buy once" choice. The Timba wooden high chair with cushion 1 790 DHSee price / Order offers 4 seat heights and 8 footrest positions according to Bébé Confort, from 6 months to about 10 years: remove the tray to pull your child up to the table. The Nordik wooden high chair 2 266 DHSee price / Order brings a Scandinavian look.
4. The high chair usable from birth
It starts reclined, like a bouncer, then becomes a high chair. The Babymoov Slick 2 721 DHSee price / Order is listed from 0 to 3 years (up to 15 kg), with 3 recline positions and 5 heights; the Ava also has a reclined mode. Handy for keeping a newborn at table height, but a high chair is not a bed: a baby who falls asleep should be laid flat.
5. The booster seat for meals
Do not confuse it with a car booster: a dining booster straps onto a dining chair and turns any sturdy chair into a high chair. The Bébé Confort Moly folding booster 537 DHSee price / Order (6 to 36 months, 15 kg, 3 heights, removable tray) folds flat. The Badabulle Trendy Meal booster 546 DHSee price / Order (6 to 36 months, 15 kg according to retailers) fixes with two straps, offers 3 heights and a 3-point harness, and folds to under 20 cm. It is the most space-saving solution. See all our dining boosters.
Safety: 6 points to check
According to the Australian product safety regulator (ACCC), falls are the most common injury involving high chairs, often when a child tries to stand up or climb.
- The harness, at every meal. According to the ACCC, a 5-point harness is the safest; a 3-point harness is fine if the waist and crotch straps are fastened tightly. The Meely and the Ava have a 5-point harness, the Timba a 3-point harness with a safety bar, according to the manufacturers.
- Stability. A wide base, no wobble when you press on the seat, folding locks engaged.
- The European standard. High chairs are covered by EN 14988 (requirements and test methods), chair-mounted boosters by EN 16120. Bébé Confort, for example, states that the Meely complies with EN 14988:2017+A1:2020.
- Supervision. Always stay with your baby while they eat, in case of choking, and never leave them alone in a high chair.
- Placement. Keep the chair away from the cooker, windows, electrical appliances and curtain cords. Do not place it close enough to a wall or worktop for your child to push off with their feet.
- A securely fixed booster. Use it only on a sturdy four-legged chair, never on a stool, a light folding chair or a bench seat.
Cleaning and care: what makes a daily difference
Between purées and Friday couscous, a high chair gets dirty fast. Check:
- The removable tray: every chair in our selection has one, so you can rinse it at the sink. Only put it in the dishwasher if your model's manual allows it.
- The covers: the Meely's are waterproof and wipe clean; the Ava's seat cover is machine washable at 30 °C according to Maxi-Cosi; so is the fabric seat of the Badabulle ultra compact, according to retailers.
- Wood: damp cloth, never soak it, dry it straight away; the cushion comes off.
Small flat: which high chair takes the least space?
In Casablanca, Rabat or Tangier, many families live in flats with a narrow kitchen. Three options work well:
- The dining booster: it takes no floor space because it sits on a chair you already own. The Moly folds flat and fits in a cupboard.
- The folding chair: the Ava and the Badabulle ultra compact fold and slide between the fridge and the wall.
- The convertible chair: it does not fold, but it later replaces a child's chair, so you only buy one piece of furniture.
Measure the free space: the splayed legs of some chairs take more room than you might think.
Meals at the table or around the meida: how to manage?
In Morocco, families often eat together, at a regular table or around a low table (meida):
- Regular table: remove the tray to pull your baby up to the table, as the Timba allows.
- Low table: a standard high chair is too tall. The Meely converts into a low chair as your child grows: check its height against your table. Never put a booster on a bench or a pouf: it needs a sturdy chair with a backrest to attach the straps.
- At relatives' homes: a folding booster travels in the car boot.
Wood or plastic: which material?
Wood (Timba, Nordik) is sturdy, warm and often lasts for several children, but it is heavier and does not fold.
Metal and plastic (Meely, Ava, Badabulle) are lighter, often foldable, with more adjustments. The Ava uses a 100% recycled fabric according to Maxi-Cosi.
In short: wood for long-term use and a family that eats at the table; metal and plastic for compactness, budget or use from birth.
Convertible high chair: up to what age?
"Convertible" covers very different lifespans depending on the manufacturer: about 10 years for the Timba (remove the safety bar and harness to turn it into a child's chair), 3 years for the Meely (which becomes a low chair), the Ava and the Slick (15 kg), 36 months for the Moly and Trendy Meal boosters. For a second child, or a single purchase that lasts until primary school, a wooden convertible chair is the best value.

6 mistakes to avoid
- Buying a 6-months-minimum model for a newborn: in that case choose a chair usable from birth.
- Forgetting to measure the kitchen.
- Skipping the harness "just for a few minutes": that is often when falls happen.
- Putting a booster on a stool or a bench: it needs a stable chair with a backrest.
- Confusing a dining booster with a car booster: the latter is for the car only.
- Letting your baby sleep in the high chair: lay them flat in their cot.
